Churchill Howard is partnering with a well-established and high-performing organisation to recruit a Head of Financial Control based in Birmingham. This is a key role offering the opportunity to shape and strengthen financial control across a complex, multi-division business.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Finance Director, the Financial Controller is responsible for ensuring the integrity of financial reporting activity across the divisions. You will play a pivotal role in maintaining robust financial controls, delivering accurate and timely reporting, and driving continuous improvement across finance operations.

Leading a large team, you will have oversight of Financial Control and Finance Operations, including financial accounting, month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations and accounts payable.

Key Responsibilities

- Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of all nominal ledger entries across multiple entities
- Own and enhance the month-end close process, ensuring timely and high-quality reporting
- Lead, develop, and mentor a team across financial control and finance operations
- Oversee balance sheet reconciliations and maintain strong financial governance
- Manage Accounts Payable, Treasury Back Office, and payment processes
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to to improve processes and enhance efficiency, controls, and scalability
- Identify and implement opportunities for automation of processes
- Partner with senior stakeholders to support business decision-making

About You

- Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent)
- Proven experience in a Financial Controller or senior finance leadership role
- Strong financial reporting expertise with a focus on controls and governance
- Experience managing and developing high-performing teams
- Comfortable operating in a complex, multiple entity environment
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and able to influence at a senior level
